SunWest Harbourtowne—nearly ready to roll!

A year ago the Governing Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District voted to approve a “land swap” which would trade approximately 90 acres of “disturbed” land for 1266 acres of coastal habitat (including wetlands and uplands.)

The vote was contingent on SunWest Harbourtowne gaining all necessary approvals from all the involved government agencies.

We are almost there.

Wednesday February 24, the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners will hear the final plans for SunWest Harbourtowne. Their vote will determine whether the project moves to construction.

In voting yes, the County Commissioners will also finalize a “land swap” agreement with the Southwest Florida Water Management District. That agreement will ensure that 1288 acres of coastal land resources are transferred to public ownership forever.

There will be final reviews at the state level, but we are confident that SunWest Habrourtowne meets the highest possible standards.

It’s been a long process and we’ve had the support of neighbors, boaters and fishermen, park lovers and environmentalists.

We need your support for this final meeting. Please call or write your County Commissioner and let him or her know that you support the project and the plan.

Upcoming meetings:

  • January 28 — Development Review Committee —New Port Richey County Administration
  • February 9 — Land Planning Agency —Dade City, Historic Courthouse
  • February 10 — Planning Commission — New Port Richey County Administration
  • February 24, 1:30 p.m. County Commission Meeting — Final consideration of all plan components, Dade City Historic Courthouse.
